When I first moved to Oklahoma in 1976, Herbert became an instant friend. He showed protection and kindness to the "new girl", and made sure I was safe from would-be thugs on campus. Herbert has often crossed my mind, with thankful memories of how be befriended me. Looking back, it is evident that this young man had the unmistakeable attributes of a man of God.

Hello-The Byrd Family,
I send my sympathy to Herbert's wife and children, and his family members. My name is David A. Craft, Herbert was one of my friends back during our years in Muskogee Sadler. I am sorry to hear that he passed away. Just the other day, I was thinking about Herbert, who was a giant, but yet, he was so approachable and a positive person to hang around. Everytime, I would go to Muskogee, to visit my father, I would hope that I would run into Herbert, but I see that he is in a much better place then, this crazy world we are living in NOW. Herbert, you will always forever be a person that I looked up, too! Thanks for being my classmates back in these days! :)

Herbert came through our imaging clinic a few weeks before he passed away. I immediately recognized the name and knew it was one of my old classmates. I was never close freinds with Herbert but, he always had a smile and was very kind. We visted a little while he was at our clinic and he mentioned wanting to come to the reunion. I am sad to know he won't get the be there but, I'm sure he will be there in spirit. God Bless you Herbert and may you rest peacefully now and be free from pain. Melissa Wells

One of the friendliest guys ever - always with a smile. Sometime after high school I saw him at the hospital where he was working and he was still smiling and just as friendly. He is truly someone I would have loved to have been able to see at the reunion.
